DESCRIPTION:This is a two-hour adults-only class where participants will create their own playful abstract portrait similar to the ones in the video images. Students will use 8×10 heavy-weight\, mixed-media paper\, acrylic paint\, ink\, stamps\, and markers to create their work. The cost is $25 per participant. This fee includes all supplies. Minimum participation of 10 adults is required for class to meet. Students in grades 10-12 are welcome to attend as an adult. Sign up anytime. \nHere are the details: \n$70/month or $280/semester fee includes all supplies and 3 Tuesday classes each month this fall from 4:00-5:00 at The Link Centre in Tupelo. There is a one-time $25 registration fee. \nLimited spots available to keep class size manageable for individualized instruction. \nThis is a creative thinking class. Students will make their own creative decisions after learning about the elements of art and the principles of design. We will use high quality artist papers for the base of the majority of the projects. We will use an array of mediums and other materials to create with the papers. These will include materials that I use in creating my own artwork which are not common to an elementary art classroom. There will be a Memorandum of Understanding for parents to sign covering this concept. \nWe will have a public art show to celebrate the students and their work on November 27 from 4:00-5:00 (at the last class meeting) at the Link Centre. I will create a digital invite to send to family and friends. \nA little about me: I am an award-winning art teacher with work published in Education Week\, Arts and Activities Magazine\, SchoolArts Magazine\, Education Closet’s Arts Ed Lab\, ASCD\, and more. I am currently taking a break from teaching full-time\, but I am already missing time with students. So\, I’ve decided to do my very first after-school class.

The new gospel was identified as the previously known but never found Gospel of Thomas. This Seminar introduces the Gospel of Thomas\, examines its vision of Jesus\, and asks how Thomas challenges our understanding of the historical Jesus and the story of Christian beginnings. \n\n \n\n\n\nProgram Details\nDiscovering the Fifth Gospel\nRuben Dupertuis and Stephen J. Patterson \nIn 1945 an Egyptian farmer made a startling discovery: a collection of ancient Christian texts\, mostly lost\, now found\, including the remarkable Gospel of Thomas—the “fifth gospel.”  What is the Gospel of Thomas?  How was it discovered?  Why has this discovery sent scholars scrambling for answers ever since?  Rubén René Dupertuis and Stephen J. Patterson introduce you to the Gospel of Thomas. \nFriday evening\, 7:30–9 pm \nChristianity Beyond the Canon\nRubén René Dupertuis \nThe familiar notion of the New Testament canon invites us to think of texts that are either “in or out\,” “good or bad.” But the range of texts and materials we have from the first few centuries of early Christianity actually paint a picture that is more varied\, fluid\, and unsettled.
